Kid Cudi’s Entergalactic

When I pulled this album out of the wrapping on my birthday a year or two back, I wasn’t sure what it was, and neither was my sister, who got it for me, but she said, “You like Kid Cudi, right?” Luckily for her, I do. But, even though I do consider myself a Kid Cudi enjoyer, this album spent a lot of time sitting in the back of my vinyl bin mainly because the album coincides with an animated series by the same name—a series I still haven’t watched.

Kid Cudi’s, Entergalactic, is a tracklist of melodic psychedelia one would expect from the Man himself. While I might be missing context from the show, I still enjoyed listening. Cudi doesn’t stray too far off the path he laid when he dropped The Man on the Moon III, which I wouldn’t say is a negative, but it still didn’t hit for me as III did. I’ve noticed he uses similar verbiage in MONTM:III, which makes some of the songwriting feel recycled.

There are a lot of love ballads on this album that, again, I think might make more sense if I watched the show, but I don’t feel like it at the moment, so fuck it. While Cudi follows his path, he goes back to the early days of the Man on the Moon, on the track of Living My Truth. Some other tracks I particularly enjoyed were New Mode, Do What I Want, In Love, and Can’t Shake Her.

The vinyl itself is bright pink, a first in my collection. The packaging doesn’t contain many secrets, posters, or extra artwork; it just contains the vinyl and some art and info on the inside flap.

I'm not sure how much I’ll revisit this album, but I still enjoyed listening to it and appreciate the gift from my sister, even though it took me over a year to listen to it.
